In this episode Garth interviews Tamarah Smith from Gwynedd Mercy University in Gwynedd Valley, PA. With expertise in both applied statistics and educational psychology, Tamarah teaches and mentors doctoral students in education. She became connected to the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) world through the Eastern Psychological Association (EPA), having served on its Board of Directors. Tamarah recently concluded service on an STP task force about statistics; she has been interested in student self-efficacy and improving math performance for some time. She struggled a bit in her early academic career, so perhaps she clearly relates to the struggles many psychology majors encounter with statistics. When Tamarah had her own epiphany that math is just a language, she began to conquer math and statistics. She mentors and supports doctoral students’ development of statistical skills every day.
